17/12/17 - Bellfield 4 Crosshouse 5 (after extra time)

17 Dec 2017 by Tom Brown

Bellfield and Crosshouse served up a cracking cup tie at St Josephs and it was unfortunate one of the teams had to lose out.

Bellfield took the lead against the run of play when Rian nodded home at the back post. The boys then found their way in the match and made it 2-0 when Mitchell’s cross broke to David who lobbed the keeper.

Crosshouse reacted well after the break and pulled one back with a long range effort before equalising with a deflected goal which wrong footed Nathan in goal.

When Crosshouse took a 3-2 lead with 15 minutes to go It looked as if they would hold out for the win however a good strike from Sammy after good work on the wing from Jamie took the tie into extra time.

Both teams had chances with tired players all over the pitch and It was Crosshouse who made it 4-3 midway through the first half of extra time. Yet again the boys dug deep and equalised through Colin who finished from close range.

With 5 minutes to go and penalties looking likely Crosshouse got the winner with a good strike from 20 yards which found the net.

Bellfield threw everything at Crosshouse in the dying minutes and Craig went close with a strong header which was well saved however Crosshouse held on for the win and go into the semi final.

The boys weren’t at there best today in terms of quality play however they made up for that with their effort and can’t be faulted for their commitment throughout.
Well done and just a bit unlucky on the day.
Good luck to Crosshouse in the semi final⚽️.
